DEMO POLICY

If you have never heard any Track & Field music or do not know what kind of music we release or promote at our shows please feel free to take a look round the website to see if your music fits with what we do; sending unsuitable material is a waste of your time and ours.

Please do NOT send MP3 files attached in e-mail, they will be regarded as spam and binned unheard. Please do NOT expect anyone to visit websites to download MP3s or other digital media. Life really is too short!! Acceptable formats for demos are CD(R) and VINYL.

We try to listen to all demos, but it is not our highest priority (we also have day jobs!), so it may take us a while to get round to it. Please don't nag us about it as this is likely to see your CD placed in the foothills of our demo mountain.

Please also do not expect us to acknowledge receipt of your submission or send it back to you. Please make sure your name and contacts are on the CD AND packaging. The CD may become separated from the packaging or vice versa. Please also state whether you are looking to release a record or for a slot at one of our shows.

T&F LABEL

Remember that Track & Field is an independent, self-financing label. We have day-jobs and are generally broke… We are far more likely to be convinced by material you consider "finished" and ready for release.

We receive tons of music every week so ask yourself: do I have something as good as or better than what they are already releasing? Have I just recorded the new "Pet Sounds" or are we the new "Jesus & Mary Chain" or "Galaxie 500"?

T&F SHOWS

T&F shows are not a conveyor belt of 'showcases' for you to play to a gaggle of A&R types. There are other people in London who do that and they're welcome to you. Nothing is more likely to turn us off than a letter beginning 'lots of industry interest'. What the fcuk does that mean? Our shows attempt to bring together a coherent line-up of music played by artists who we think 'get' the Track & Field spirit. Have a look at who's playing other nights to see whether you think you fit. If you want to be the new Codplay then you might have better luck elsewhere.

ACTS FROM OUTSIDE THE UK

Despite what many other cities may claim, London and by extension the UK is the music capital of the world. As the English speaking gateway to Europe, we're the focus of bands from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and in turn bands from Europe see us as a way into America. Plus of course we have our own home grown scene. In the past two years this has only increased with The Strokes and White Stripes effectively being broken by UK labels. The sheer volume of acts passing through these shores means that competition for people’s attention is stronger than anyone can remember.

Due to the competition, getting people to come and see a band they have not heard is becoming increasingly difficult. We get many great CDs and records from acts around the world but we are unlikely to offer a show because of a lack of profile. Please bear this in mind before nagging us to give you a show… Londoners can be a pretty fickle bunch so a healthy press pack allied to a great record is likely to put us in a much better position to give you some help.

None of this is intended to discourage you, just give you a sense of realism. If you receive no positive response do not assume you may never receive a positive response. Sometimes your material may be appreciated but may not quite have that elusive something, perhaps your next submission will.
